Event Details

Thank you for your interest in attending the Initiative for a Competitive Online Marketplace (ICOMP) reception marking the launch of our latest White Paper, Intellectual Property on the Internet: The Search for Sustainable Business Practices.

Places are limited so please do register your interest early, we will be sending out a confirmation email before the event to all those who have places confirmed.

ICOMP was founded in 2007, with the aim of bringing together businesses and organisations involved in Internet commerce. We advocate the adoption of business practices and regulatory intervention which contribute to the sustainable growth of the Internet.

We are delighted to have introductory remarks from PRS for Music Chairman Ellis Rich and ICOMP Legal Counsel David Wood. We will also be joined by a panel of senior industry spokespeople including, Executive Editor of The Register Andrew Orlowski, author Nick Harkaway, Premier League spokesman Tim Vine, and PRS for Music’s Regulatory and Corporate Affairs Director Frances Lowe.

As you will know, advances in technology and the massive expansion of the Internet have fuelled an outburst of online innovations, services and opportunities. While, in many respects, these developments have proved largely beneficial, in others the Internet and content industries appear to be at odds.

The Search for Sustainable Business Practices launch event will provide a platform to explore these issues, bringing together senior business executives, intellectual property rights holders and policy makers to draw attention to these crucial questions. We will seek to encourage debate on the extent to which today’s business models and practices can sustain the creation and dissemination of high quality, compelling online content and build a future that is both innovative and sustainable.

ICOMP

ICOMP, the Initiative for a Competitive Online Marketplace, is an industry initiative for businesses and organisations involved in Internet commerce. Its overall objective is the sustainable growth of the Internet and key goals are to encourage competition, transparency, data privacy and respect for intellectual property protection as well as the adoption of best practices to promote online creativity, innovation, safety and trust.

As an organisation concerned with the Internet, ICOMP brings together companies operating in the online marketplace across content, infrastructure and services sectors to identify and promote best practices. ICOMP helps to educate and inform stakeholders and decision-makers on how the online marketplace functions and the challenges being faced by those who operate within it.

Over 70 companies, trade associations and individuals worldwide are members of ICOMP and have endorsed ICOMP’s principles, including a number of national and international associations which represent a further 1,670 members between them. These members represent 15 countries, from Europe and around the world. ICOMP is funded by member contributions as well as sponsorship from Microsoft. Burson-Marsteller acts as its secretariat and Lord Alan Watson is ICOMP’s first Chairman.
